Reduces the pH of the footbath to a pH2 makes copper sulphate up to 80% soluble.
Water is generally a pH of 7 – Copper Sulphate is only about 20% soluble in pH7.
You can potentially reduce the CuSO4 usage by making the CuSO4 granules more ‘Soluble’ – Reduce the blue stone wastage seen after footbathing.
If you do not use Copper Sulphate, you can use the ‘Footbath pH Acidifier’ up to 4 times per week as a routine footbath.
If using as a routine bath then you will aim to reduce the bath to a pH of 3 and keep it below pH5 by using the digital pH meter (available from Wessex Animal Health) and adding more ‘Footbath pH Acidifier’.
Rule of thumb is 100grams per 100 litres per 100 cows, so 300 cows = 300 litre bath, with 300 grams of powder added (even in worst cases when extra pH Acidifier is needed throughout footbathing – It should not require more than 150grams per 100 litres water).
We are seeing reduced lesion size, healthier heel bulb skin and reductions in new cases of hoof lesions.
